When we or our loved ones were diagnosed with diabetes or even pre-diabetics the most important instruction which we/they all have to listen from our dietitians was to lower down the intake of carbohydrates. But the doctor only took the name of carbohydrate. Obviously he did not have time to give the detail of carbohydrate rich food.

I, respecting your time value, am not going to put you into the details of what are complex and simple. Pre Diabetes Diet Plan



I went in for my yearly, or should I say year and a half physical two months ago. I was a little surprised to find out that my blood sugars came back a little out of whack. Well, not exactly a little but very out of whack. My doctor gave me the news that I was now at the pre diabetic stage and the next stop was full blown diabetes.

One common side effect of high blood sugars is the addition of high triglycerides which I now also have. Wow! What a year and a half makes. To make a long story short my doctor laid out the steps I must take to get rid of what he called a red flag. Lose 15 lbs, eat fish twice a week and cut out as much carbohydrates as you can and take omega 3 supplements. I research and write about subjects for a living. So the first thing I did was jump on my computer and research pre diabetes. This subject had by far the most conflicting information that I have researched to date. There were so many sources of information and very few were clear on how to reverse pre diabetes.

After extensive research I found a weight loss program that I decided I would try. I knew that I had to get it right the first time because I was very close to becoming a diabetic I couldn’t afford any mistakes. I started a new lifestyle plan, I like that term better than diet, and added an exercise component. I added a brisk walk on my treadmill for 30-35 minutes 6 days a week. I have lost the 20 lbs to date and hope to lose 10 more. My blood sugar levels have dropped from 6.7 down to 5.6, I still have a lot of work to do but I am on the right track.

My new program is a well balanced approach to weight loss and is a program I know I can adhere to as a new lifestyle. I now eat to live a long and healthy life, I don’t eat just to lose weight anymore. My pre diabetes diet plan focuses on protein and fibre and complex carbohydrates. Foods I avoid are refined breads, potatoes, most pasta and pastries. Don’t have a melt down! when I say avoid I mean that I still eat these foods but more as a treat, like mashed potatoes with my turkey or scalloped potatoes with my ham. I have eaten both items and I am still losing weight and balancing blood sugars. The key is moderation and exercise a little bit more the next day. When you eat protein like steak or chicken and pork stay to a serving the size of a deck of cards.

If you like bread as I do then I would suggest buying sprouted grain breads they have half the carbs that whole wheat bread contains. Carbohydrates that are found in foods like breads and pasta and starchy foods like potatoes raise your blood sugar very quickly so you really must limit these foods as much as possible. Vegetables and fruit are an important part of my diet.

I have a family history of diabetes. My dad passed away some time ago after suffering the effects of diabetes. I won’t bother going into too much detail other than they started to take off limbs do to poor circulation. My brother was diagnosed with pre diabetes 2 years ago. He didn’t start a pre diabetes diet plan right away, and now he endures daily injections and some pretty ugly side effects.

I have watched loved ones suffer the effects of diabetes and if I can save one person from that experience that would be all I need. Start a weight loss program or should I say a lifestyle program today. Diabetes is knocking at your door, tell it to go away.
